Some people come home from their day out doing whatever they are doing and before they come inside their homes take their shoes off at the door. A lot of people keep an extra pair of slippers or socks at the doorway to their garage if they do not like to walk around barefoot.
The University of Arizona did a study and found that 96 percent of shoes had some bacteria on them from public places and 27 percent of them had E coli – that can cause gastric issues, pneumonia or infections. Shoes come in contact with allergens, gasoline, debris from garbage, and pesticides. Plus in Las Vegas there is a lot of construction all over town so you are also bringing into your home plain old-fashioned dirt.
If you have children that play on the floor or pets do you really want them to come in contact with the germs etc. that can be on your shoes? Have you ever dropped something on the floor and though, “it’s just dirt”? Elderly people should think about removing their shoes and asking guests to leave their shoes at the door since their immune systems are not as strong as they used to be.
Vacuuming & mopping your floors regularly can help with the problem – do you really want to do that every day?!
I have friends that ask their guest to take off their shoes before coming into their homes and I have always respected the request, and honestly I thought they were being a little silly not wanting their floors to get “dirty”. After researching this blog I am seriously considering having my family remove their shoes to keep some of the dirt and bacteria at bay. Also I recommend washing your washable shoes like sneakers on a regular basis.
